CASIO has redeveloped the proven DT-X30 portable computer to feature even more practical functions that are specially suited to tough stock applications in industrial, logistics and warehouse environments. These features include a new keyboard layout for users in terminal emulation or SAP environments and an all-range imager with auto focus, which can read 1D and 2D codes from both near and long range distances. The all-range imager is also integrated in a robust housing so that there is still plenty of room for other functions such as the digital auto focus camera with LED flash for speedy image capture.
The newly developed CMOS auto focus imager can read two-dimensional codes with high data volumes, such as DataMatrix, Aztec and PDF417 as well as the new QR code. The imager recognises all valid barcodes at a wide range of distances, from near to long range* making it ideal for actual warehouse working practices. The imager is tilted down slightly in the housing head to achieve the best scan angle; it has a laser targeting beam and can be activated by three easily accessible trigger buttons. An audible or visual feedback confirms that the scan is correct. The device also features an auto focus digital camera with LED flash, which takes sharp, two megapixel images at lightning speed. This feature provides a fast and reliable way to record delivery documents, goods receipt scenarios and transportation damage.
The dimensions and the exceptionally robust design of the successful DT-X30 range are also preserved in the new model. Conformity with protection class IP67, a drop resistance of up to 1.80 m to concrete and an operating temperature range of -20 to +50°C make this device suitable for use in tough industrial environments. Despite the fact that the keyboard layout has been expanded (now with 12 function keys), the hand-held terminal still has a compact form factor. This makes it suitable for use with terminal emulation and in an SAP environment, where complex functions are often performed via function keys. Soft keys have also been implemented to enhance the use of the touch panel display and the transflective 3.5 inch (9.4 cm) colour LCD technology ensures excellent readability, even in sunlight, coupled with low power consumption. The DT-X30R50 Series will launch in April 2010 and an optional trigger handle will be available from Summer 2010 to further extend the ergonomic options.
Utilising a PXA320 processor with a 624 MHz cycle, 128 MB RAM, 128 FROM memory and the flexible Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system the DT-X30R-50C and communicate with enterprise IT systems online via Wi-Fi or offline via IrDA or Bluetooth®.
